Smaller parties.

Im playing with 3 characters on core rules and having a blast, microing them is so much easier than 6 people, and i can manage abilities better. Smaller parties grown on me.

Im playing a good guy fighter/cleric, neutral chaotic dwarven defender, and an evil female thief/mage, currently slowly advancing dragons eye, the trolls here are hell strong.

I tried a trio once, and wound up adding a fourth about halfway through. But I’ve played with four several times, it is fun with the smaller party and you do advance quicker.

Is ages that I don't play IWD, but is the kind of party I like the most in BG2 and I completely agree, the micro managing part is really important, to really control the situation with a full party is a lot of work while playing with 3 you are naturally lead to micro manage and is easy to do it.
4 people parties are still easy to manage and they level up almost as fast as 3, maybe only 20% slower as the quest xp is given to anyone.
Playing a 2 people party is also fun, you have way more resources than a solo, that I find boring as has few tactical options and they gain xp very fast.

I found on HoW the level cap changed so having 6 is good enough, as you get to share weapons and armour around with plenty of experience to share. A micro party is ok for non HoW games.

In BG2, some XP rewards are given to the party as a lump sum and then divided, while other XP rewards give a pre-defined amount to each individual party member no matter how many there are.
But IWD:EE does not have that second type of XP reward - all XP rewards in his game are divided among the party, and thus lead to smaller parties leveling up faster.
