Can't decide between Fighter or Paladin.

First time player. Just wanna rock a Longsword and a Shield with the best possible armor. What class is best for that?

Probably fighter. Paladin comes with restrictions and few benefits at first level. You can always experiment with the prologue anyway and restart with a different class later as the prologue is only short and is a teaching area for first time players.

For first playthrough Fighter will be good.

Very high Strength and Endurance with 12 Dexterity.

Invest in Heal skill to use healkits more effectively.

As for the Paladin it's more complicated.

You have to invest less in Strength and Endurance and have 14 Wisdom to unlock your spells as they become available through levels and high Charisma for special abilities.

Pallys can be very powerful but you need to plan your attribute points and feats.

The prestige class Champion of Torm is interesting, it is useful to boost a Pally for extra feats, it can give a Fighter some Pally abilities so there is an option for you to test out some overlap of abilities.

Why not both? Start as a Fighter till level 4 for some easy quick bonus feats, then "find your faith" and go Paladin the rest of the way. If you can swing some stat points into charisma, you can get a nice boost to your saves, and later on take the Divine Shield and Divine Might feats for more AC and Damage goodness. You'll also pick up some nice buffing spells like Divine Favor, Bless, Prayer, Greater Magic Weapon, Bull's Strength, and Holy Sword.
