Killed Everard, Nothing Changed

I was curious what would happen if one killed Everard in Easthaven by the end of the game. Didn't find online what would happen, so decided to play again.

I was disappointed to see nothing really changed.
I killed him, entered the tower (he wasn't there, of course) and killed Pomab.

Met Poquelin and he opened the portal. Everard didn't show up to sacrifice himself and the battle went on exactly as usual (I didn't notice it being harder or anything like that).
