Saved games won't open or are missing information

Greetings! I'm not sure if this is the way to post a problem, but if not hopefully someone will direct me to the right place.
I started a game last year and never finished. I recently reinstalled BG2:EE and tried to load one of my saved games. The first time I did this, it seemed to work. But then my computer (Windows 10, notebook) did an update and now the saved games either won't play (creates a crash file) or there seems to be something wrong with them. For example, the journal seems to be missing most of the information. I have tried several suggestions - updated driver, closing the browser, adjustment to the .lua file, etc. Does anyone have any solutions? I'd like to finish the game and it seems like most of the information is there, but I can't figure out the broken link. I can post the .dmp file but I wasn't sure if that was the way to do this. Thanks!
