Resting and Mage Spells

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
Maybe this is specific to Aerie, but in BG2, she only gets spells back if we rest in an inn, not in the city or underground. Is this intended?

    No, it shouldn't matter where you rest. You get your spells and daily abilities back regardless.

    However, when attempting to rest outside safe areas, you run the risk of being interrupted. Monsters show up, you have to fight them, and you don't actually rest.
