Do I need an arcane caster like in BG2 , or do I need some secondary caster(with some buffs and disabling casting) or wouldnt I need any arcane casting guy at all?

Is a triple class caster enough? (fmt or fmc)? looking for a three or four man party?

With wild hordes of enemies in IWD, U need a Druid or a Conjurer. Druid is better, since U will have a problem with scrolls in the beginning. Otherwise, U can take a Sorcerer, specialized in Conjuration spells. 👈
  • No, ya don’t need an arcane caster. Although if ya go without, you may appreciate having an inquisitor in your party for the times ya may need to cut through enemy magic. Clerics’ turn undead (destroy or control at high levels) can be quite useful .

You certainly don't need an arcane caster the same way you do in BG2! A triple class, or a bard would be completely adequate.

And even in BG2, you don't need an arcane caster. I did a run that completely banned both arcane and divine spellcasting; while I brought a bard and used wands, that bard never memorized any spells. They certainly had things harder, but they cleared basically everything just fine.

So that was the line I didn't cross. No spells from memorization, but wands were too useful to give up. And of course, a bard was the best way to add that capability back in - songs are very impressive when they have a full party of warriors to buff.

Well, technically, when you create a good party with 6 people, you dont need much magic. I played much normal IWD + auril bane mod (How + totlm) and IWDEE, and if you like melee fighters, then game loves you. You also wont get much bow / crossbow love until HoW part, same for mage scrolls and most time, mage is useless there. You need totemic druid and maybe cleric. Even thief is not that good there, so mest MC him. But game can give you plenty of OP melee weapons (swords, axes, hammers, flails) so overrall, IWDEE is much easier, even on insane difficulty, compared to BG2. I ended using my mage only for emotion buffs, and haste buffs for my fighters and ranged damagers... even with the several existing mods, IWDEE encounters are easy, if you have 2+ front liners.
