Xan petrified and hostile after wild surge from Neera - fixed

I had this situation when Xan got petrified from Neera's wild surges. While petrification can easily be cured with scroll of Stone to Flesh which one can buy in any temple, Xan always emerges hostile and attacks the party no matter what. Also when he petrifies initially his portrait disappears from the party screen.
After some experimentation I found solution and if this happen to anyone else here is how to proceed.
You need the scroll Stone to Flesh. You also need charm spell (level 1 spell).
This is the sequence
1. Cast Charm at the stone statue until he fails the save and the statue becomes charmed
(in my case I had to cast charm several times because Xan is an elf with 90% immunity to charm spells; but that is just Xan's race)
2. Cast Stone to Flesh quickly
3. Immediately select the talk button in order to talk to Xan while he is charmed (Charm lasts 5 rounds so don't delay). Remember to do this quickly because after 5 rounds he turns hostile again.
4. As soon as you talk to him the normal dialogue appears when he offers to join you again permanently. And this fixes it
