the winch looks like a container or door. Why is that?

    Because mechanically, it is a door. The part you interact with is up there, while the animation that changes and the area that becomes unblocked is down below.

    Makes sense of sorts I suppose. But it also has the mouse pointer change. Shouldnt that be enough? In my early BGII days, I wasted quite some time trying to get to the treasure within. I'm probably the only one dumb enough to do that, though.
