Axis and Allies 1942 online sub in hostile sea zones

My sub ended a turn in a sea zone with another enemy sub (the enemy sub dove). The next turn I attempted to move it out of that zone during the combat move but could not (there were not any enemy ships in range for it to attack...I'm not sure if that is relevant or not). And during the combat phase my sub attacked the enemy sub, which dove again. The sub appeared to be stuck in that sea zone. Please advise how I may have gotten that sub out of that sea zone. Thank you.
