Loads of free plate mail in Candlekeep with no loss of reputation

I had an idea today and wondered if anyone else had thought of it and tried it.
I rolled a cleric/illusionist and after acquiring the three healing potions and doing all six quests, I attacked Fuller. I had already consumed the Oil of Speed in the training room to make the task easier. I then attacked Fuller and made sure that the Watcher with him also went hostile. I lured them both outside where I had sufficient room to run away if necessary. I then charmed Fuller whereupon the Watcher attacked him reducing Fuller to near death. However the charm spell expired so I had to charm him again. This time he got killed and I got free plate mail without loss of reputation! Needless to say, my character was most definitely evil!
I then realised that I could rest and use this tactic again and again until I had all that I needed. There are plenty of Watchers in Candlekeep!
Of course being stolen, I wouldn't be able to sell it until Baldur's Gate, but I could give it to other party members!
Then of course there are the three Flaming Fist that you can charm south of Beregost for yet more armour. You don't lose reputation for killing them!
I didn't realise how useful the charm spell is
Having a long lasting effect Algernon's cloak is even more effective as you can get Bassilus to attack Zargal and suchlike. Thus if you killed Algernon, you could take on those enemies at level 1!

or you could just pick pocket him for his cloak....
A cleric/illusionist can't pickpocket, and at the beginning of the game thieves that you recruit aren't great at it either and neither are the bards!
Of course pickpocketting is the obvious course if you are playing a thief. You can have 65 in pickpocketting straight out of Candlekeep, though that does mean that you forego that lovely 1000gp gem at Winthrop's.
I tend to solo until I have over 32,000 experience. I then enlist a thief for pickpocketting, dismiss him/her after doing the job of pickpocketting and replace him/her with one specialising in lock opening/trap removal. It works well.
To get 32,000 experience, Algernon's Cloak helps a lot particularly for non-fighters, particularly mages when they are at their weakest.
Incidentally, it is possible to pickpocket the +1 dagger from him, if you don't have the charisma to get it through dialogue. This does come with the risk of failing and making him mad, though...
My party doesn't have a thief or anyone with a charisma of 18 so the usual ways of getting Fuller's Dagger were not available, so I had to think outside the box to get both that and other equipment.
Here is how I did it:
I am currently investigating how to get yet more equipment.
So far, the +1 dagger and three sets of plate armour. I strongly suspect that more is available.
Wiki says that I get instakilled if Tethoril gets killed.
I wonder if that is the case if he is killed by an enemy. Only one way to find out!
If the Gatewarden attacks Tethoril he is insta-killed and Gorion becomes hostile, therefore that is not an option.
However, yet another Watcher could be persuaded to attack the Gatewarden and thus got himself killed.
All four sets of plate mail could be sold at Winthrop's if so desired. That's 1200gp! What's more, I suspect that other armour is available as there is one other Watcher!
I got that watcher to kill the Gatewarden which was a mistake as he only had chain mail. I should have helped the Gatewarden to kill the Watcher for another set of Plate Mail.
I'll know better in future!
My game is the standard EE game with no mods.
