Almost lost Kagain

I almost lost Kagain in this basilisk random encounter. Good Lord he saved vs Polymorh.

What a nasty basilisk. This one immediately cast petrification on Kagain as soon as I stepped into the ambush. Usually it takes few seconds for them to do this, enough time to cast protection vs petrification but this encounter the basilisk acted immediately within a second and there was no time for any protection.

    Did you immediately see the basilisk, or move forward and then saw it?

    This was random encounter while I was traveling from area to area. As soon as the encounter triggered the basilisk was casting petrification. Yes the basilisk was in line of sight as well.

    Scrolls of Stone to Flesh are cheap, and by your stage of the game you definitely should have more than enough coin to have at reserve of at least 3.
