(SOLVED) Android - can't bring up the console with Ctrl+Space

//Edit: The whole thing was actually caused by the Pocket-play UI++ mod - it somehow interfered with different hotkeys and key combinations like Ctrl+Space.
Has anyone come across this kind of problem before?
I'm using an external bluetooth keyboard connected to my mobile. The baldur.lua is also properly edited.
I can invoke the console no problem with the Pocket-play UI++ mod (long press on the arrows UI button), but no luck using the key combination. I've also tried Key Mapper (by sds100) to send the required key input via some other hotkey, but still no luck.
Could it be a problem with the keyboard itself or some input mismatch on my device/Android version? I'm currently on POCO X3 Pro (Android 13, MIUI 14.0.1). Although same thing happens (or more like doesn't happen) when e.g. using scrcpy to cast my device's screen to PC and using the PC's input (keyboard and mouse) via USB debugging.
I'd appreciate any kind of ideas to test out at this point.
