Does Keldorn leave after you rescue Imoen?

During the quest with his wife and kids, you can choose the option - help me until we find Imoen. I know that this is like halfway through the game. But it's kind of a waste if he's going to leave me 1/2 way through.

Regardless of which option you choose in that quest, Keldorn does not leave permanently. He'll stick with you to the end.

You can choose the option to send him home to his family, and then he is gone I believe?

But I always like to point out here, speaking as an old retired guy, you are doing Keldorn a solid when you give him one last epic quest (for a couple months) to remember his service by, before he heads off into retirement.

If you send him home to his family at the reconciliation, he'll still be back at the Radiant Heart ready for more adventuring a day later. He'll retire when he's good and ready, and that's not now!

Well, OK, there is one way to lose Keldorn forever in this quest. If you preemptively attack Sir William, Keldorn will side against you, leaving the party and becoming an enemy. Anything else, and Keldorn takes no more than a few days with his family before being ready to adventure again.

That’s good to know. I often avoid the “release you from service” options, I never wanted to loose him permanently! But giving him a few days off let’s you take someone else and do their quests while Keldorn gets his quality family time.
