Multiplayer (dedicated server) prologue bug

I'm trying to play the original campaign with a friend.
I've set up a dedicated server on Linux, and loaded the Prologue module.
We get to the first meeting with Aribeth and the ambush... and nobody can damage anybody else.
So we can't get any further.

Has anyone else seen this bug & know how to fix it?
