Changing Item Names with NearInfinity

I'm still trying to figure out the ins and outs of Nearinfinity, so please bear with me. According to a guide I'm following on creating custom items, you need to create new stringref ids for your new item's name to show up. However, I can't get any of these changes to stick. I hit edit on identified name, hit new, mark the flags, put the new text in and hit save. (Repeat for description) However there isn't any feedback when I hit save on the dialog window, although it does prompt me to overwrite when I return and try to save from the edit tab. Everything looks good at this point, but when I refresh the tree, it reverts all the naming changes I made. What am I missing here, exactly?
