Mods for online co-op?

in Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition
I've played BG through in the past, maybe twice, many years ago. (I shamelessly cheated by using "Gatekeeper" to get more gold and strength points etc.)

My friend is unfamiliar with RPG games.
So, basically, we should be considered newbies.

We want to play BG1:EE in co-op mode (online).
Any mods you can suggest, in order to make it an even better experience?

Any other tips are appreciated.
