Sam's Theory on Random Encounters in Chapter One of BGEE

My theory is this: The original developers of the game trolled the new player and my memory is this:
Roll a new character. Play Prologue which ends with cutscene where Gorion is killed. The dawn is especially cruel, but Imoen shows up. The two look around and most likely the new player picks up Xzar and Montaron and we have a newbie party of 4. They explore the starting zone (Lion's Way) and move on to the railroad leading to the Friendly Arm Inn. Then the Narrator kicks in:
You have been waylaid by enemies and must defend yourself. This encounter is 8 Bandits. The probability of the random encounter is 5%.
With this encounter ending in a disaster, the next step is to reload. Now we are greeted as normal by the Old Man E and we eventually arrive at the FAI. Then we encounter Tarnesh, the real boss fight of the game.
To test the theory of the new player, I would have to reinstall the game and start from the top and see if the random encounter shows up as predicted.
Added: The idea, of course, it to show the player how much stronger the party got.
