BG1 Revisited

A few years ago I started BG1 and enjoyed it thoroughly.
Then I went on to BG2E, and it too was good. I played it through several times getting to Throne of Bhaal. At that point it began to pall.
Losing interest, I casually clicked on BG1 again - guess what? ...
...Its excellence began to shine through. I find it requires more finesse and planning. In Bg2E there are too many spells and weapons easily available to promote a character and party. For instance, shortly after entering chapter 2 I could have over 100,000 gold and a full complement of wands and other weapons from merchants and black marketers. I can't do that in BG1. I have to play the game.
