Which modules made this game worth playing?

I never really played this game back in the day, but I did own it and dabble a little here and there. I heard there were a lot of multiplayer modules that people really got into, but I don't know which ones -- there were so many, it was a little overwhelming. I'm curious for you veterans -- how do you play this game? Which modules are best for multiplayer? I may return to Steam early next year, after I do a few things.
