The semi-undead of TotL

A bit of a rant here, but TotL’s undead and undead-adjacent monsters don’t make sense.

Revenants: can’t be turned. Take double damage from Three White Doves. Never destroyed by Three White Doves. Positive: affected by stun and hopelessness. It’s non-sensical. Are they supposed to be extra-planar non-undead?

Skeleton Warriors: can’t be turned by a level 30 cleric. Take double damage from TWD. Can be destroyed by TWD.

    Hmm... it makes some sense. 😎 The word Revenant means that's kinda resurrected creature, brought to life (so, not completely "undead" 😜) from some non-material plane (containing souls of dead persons). 😉

    I'd need to dig out my old 2nd Ed Monster Manuals to confirm, but I'm pretty sure that Revenants have a special power in that they can't be turned. It's something unique to them among undead, and explicitly stated in their entry.

    @Zaxares I have found it online. 😎

    "Under exceptional circumstances, a character who has died a violent death may rise as a revenant from the grave to wreak vengeance on his killer(s)."

    "Although it is undead, the revenant is motivated entirely by self-will. Therefore, as it is not inherently evil, it is not affected by holy water, holy/unholy symbols, or other religious paraphernalia. It cannot be turned by priests nor can it be raised or resurrected."

    I recall from pre-EE that revenants were like that there too, e.g. not turnable. But neither were Crypt Things, and Skeleton Warriors were turnable. Now CT are, and SW aren’t. And if revenants are semi-undead, I still don’t understand how mind affecting spells work on them - not that I’m complaining about that part.
