Icewind Dale 1 - about rumors and storage space

Hello! here are a few questions i have:

1. i am playing as a solo thief with very low strength, so storage space is a big issue for me - i have been using the chest inside the blacksmiths house in Kuldahar as a stash. but i just got teleported by Poquelin to frozen Easthaven, so is there any way to get back to Kuldahar to use the stash?

2. if you know Nym, the drow thief vendor - the gnomes in that area say, among other things, that there is a failed paladin wondering the halls of Lower Dorns Deep who seeks the one responsible for the war between the elves and the dwarves - is there such a paladin, or just a rumor?

3. another such rumor is that there is a secret stash in that area containing potions and fly/levitation boots - here ive done some searching at it appears people say it is just a rumor.

    1. No. My first major purchase is usually the Bag of Holding from Orrick.
    2. Yes. It’s the Voice of Durdel Anatha that attacks you on entry. There’s a restored quest related to it.
    3. I have never found flying boots in the game.

thanks for the reply! how do i get Orrick to sell me the Bag of holding? Can you explain exactly who this Voice is and exactly where you find him?

Orrick is a mage in Kuldahar, his tower is located in the upper left corner of the map. Bag of Holding is a regular item available in his shop. 😎

If U are already in the "frozen Easthaven", there is no way out, except for beating Poquelin/Belhifet (and it will finish the original IWD and transport U to the Heart of Winter extension). In HoW, if U follow Hobart into Trials of the Luremaster, U will get 2 additional Bags of Holding there. 👈

OMG I don't remember now, it was 25 years ago. Not sure that Orrick sells the Bag of Holding in the original IWD. 🤔

if i go with Hobart before meeting Poquelin in the temple, will i be able to get the bags of holding and then return to Kuldahar?

I’m pretty sure bags of holding are EE only, sorry. Half the advice on this forum will be inaccurate because you are playing the original.

The Voice quest is EE only. In the original game, you just have to beat him down every time he attacks, then take down the Temple/Idol and restore the priests’ minds so he stops attacking. It’s not a difficulty finding him, he’s the first thing you encounter at the entrance to Lower Dorns.

Edit: Wait, are you playing vanilla IWD without Heart of Winter?

Yes. 😎 So, go with Hjollder to Lonelywood −> go with Hobart to the Castle Maluradek (TotL) −> beat the Luremaster and complete TotL −> complete the Burial Isle taking the Wylfdene's symbol −> speak with Hjollder again and come back to Kuldahar. 👈
