Portal in temple of Tyr not working Chapter 1

I was in the Beggars nest, my companion died, so I used the stone of recall to go get him. Then I pay 50 gold several times in the portal to go back, and it just lights up but I don't go anywhere, I tried several times. I talked to the cleric and he said no need to talk to him, to use the portal, and it's not working.
