Balthazar's compound

....I have 2 questions here.
1) Is it possible to gain access by storming the gates via direct assault, or are the outside gate guards endless in number?
2) If they are finite in number, does killing a bunch reduce the amount of flunkies Balthazar has with him in the final confrontation? (I suspect the answer to that one is a resounding NO, but I may as well ask.)
....I know what you are going to say; "Why the heck are you doing such a thing when there are other ways in? Well, I just wanted to see if it could be done; I did mention my OCD in another post
....My first attempt led to my group having to ignominiously make a fighting retreat back to the inn. Those monks are no joke; they whacked my Juggernaut golem, a Fallen Deva, and 7 skeletal warriors. But I have other resources I didn't utilize; now that I know what they are capable of, I will be better prepared.

Hah! Question asnwered. There was a finite number of gate guards, and one of the last ones to go down dropped a key to the front gate. So, clearly this was intended to be an actual way into the compound. Not the easiest way, mind you, but possible.

Addendum: Hmm, apparently there is still the possibility of some guards spawning randomly as long as we are in town. We were clambering over the rooftops to get to the Arcana, to pick up some last minute scrolls, when we were ambushed by two of them. On a rooftop! I was so surprised that it took me a few seconds to react, and before I knew it, Sarevok went down. He has a ton of HP, so they must have scored a critical hit of some sort. These guys are no joke! Sheesh. This is rather an ominous omen. If we just go waltzing in the front gate, it could turn into a bloodbath. Maybe a more subtle approach is warranted.

Hang on; some of the monks inside the compound have Quivering Palm? Egads; no wonder Saewvok went down in one blow. Anyone know if Death Ward spells/items ward this off? I do have Hindo's Doom which protects against death magic. Does Quiverong Palm fall into that category?

Yes, Death Ward effects (including that sword) protect against Quivering Palm.
