Dark Moon Monk Solo legacy of bhaal

Yo, made myself a challenge to finnish the game as a solo monk, ideally without dying on legacy of bhaal.
So many people dislike monks, but they needs to be used correct. They can do stuff a fighter cannot.

Here is the adventure, not finnished yet:

My character Zlatomir, human, Sun Soul monk,
    STR = DEX= CON = 18, INT +WIS =9, CHA= 15
    Ninjato *, single weapon *.

Well, chapter 2, level 3, Zlatomir has accumulated 5000 XP by non-combat quests, notably, Melikamp chiken quest etc. 😉

Well, at the moment (chapter 2, level 4) I've just made non-combat quests, looted the ankegh cave + some fights with the recharged wand of magic missiles (taken from Imoen) and recharged necklace of explosions (from Nashkel carnival). I hope that starting from level 5 my monk could beat, at least, kobolds in melee! 😜

Hehe, in legacy of bhaal i failed vs a single kobolt once without using abilities :p

Anyway, i have now died twice.
Mutamin late game, i was greedy and wanted his crap loot, so did not allow my charmed basilisk to attack him and his spell rolled quite high values.
I went there as level 10, after i was in baldurs gate some.

And i died once under candlekeep, could have avoided it, but mistake :p

    How's it going?
    Sun soul is hard :P

It would be fun to play a 3 or 6 man monk team once :P
1 or 2 of each class.
    Would synergize pretty well :D
3 x slingmasters with abilities and deadly fists :P
    1 stunner, 1 blinder, 1 ranged spell.
2 quilvering palms, and 1 aoe blind and fire damage.
1 mirror immage and blur tank, and 2 other guys^^

Im on a 2 week break as i am on job now.
My monk is kinda finnished under candlekeep. Next step is either werewolf island or durlags tower.

I've thought about doing an all monk group but I never follow through. Lack of helmets mean they get crotted far too often and they get no utility thieving skills like open locks or remove traps. Now that I know that Keeper allows barbarian multi-classes, maybe I'll try with one barbarian/thief so he at least gets the extra speed to keep up with the martial artists...

You can pretty much do anything if you make a kit.
You can make a custom familiar(thief) or TM(can use wands and scrolls etc).
I made a shaman/monk multiclass, and i made a shaman with familiar which I can party to do everything a thief can. Which includes steealing from stores, pickpocket, open locks, find and disarm traps, use wands, use scrolls etc :P
Although multiclass consiting of shaman and monk is not the easiest to make. It was made as a singleclass with XX% experience gained nerf.

But you do not really need a thief. Yes its effective, and super helpful. But you can run trough without thiefs. Even in hardest mode with double damage from everything including traps. You can bash open stashes, but it works very bad with only 18str. 18/xx helps tremendeous.

You can also add in items. I added a upgradable version of the shaman circle. Which includes using the helm of vailor.
    So it gave me:
    +1 more attack per round
+1 to all shaman spell casts per day
    +1 to spell level
    Protection from critical hits
    +2 thaco
    Sircumlarium charges

This way my monk/shaman kit would have a really strong helmet :P

Anyway, nice buff mods to monks are pretty simple:
19 str on creation (it will help thaco and damage which it espesially lacks in bg1)
A item with protection from critical hits(SOD actually have one)
For legacy of bhaal(swap greater deathblow with Quilvering palm HLA)

A monk can use swords, meaning holding it in an unnactive slot.
Which means loads of nice swords with utility like:
    Silence
    Mirror immage
    SunRay
    etc

    and offhand:
Belm etc for +1 attacks per round. And since you dual wield its a total of +2 attacks per round.

The lack of helm usage means you cannot use vailor helm for sircumlation, which is huge nerf compare to most other classes :P
But monks have a fantastic utility of innate abilities which are often missunderstood, and all the immunities and magic mr is great.
When i die its usually to charm. And other than that its usually against mages.

I also made a very fun Vampire Monk kit. That thing is great.

Anyway, there are pots and the is bhaalpower to help you unlock important locked stashes.
So when you go for tome of strenght it is very important that you have a way of reaching 25 str.
Either cloud giant strenght potion + bhaalpower. Or violet potion.
Else there is not much you NEED to open as a monk :P
    Sling +3 is important.
Cloak of balduran is important, and algernon cloak is important. And monk handles that very fine. Buy priest domination scroll from ulgoth's beard, Trick mercenary to algernon and charm algernon and he will die without rep loss. Then later use algernon cloak to charm the wearer of balduran cloak, and suicide here into guards to avoid rep loss.

You actually only need 24 strength for that container, though you may need to kick it a few times to open it. Potion of fire giant strength + DUHM will do the job.

    Okay thanks :P
I had one scenario where i could not open it. With a shaman. And i litterally raged :P
So for none warriors that violet pot is the only way without a thief :P Or you may have a inzane level with DUHM.

I have not played it in almost 2 weeks, due to im offshore at work atm. But will continue once home :)

I was busy too in recent 2 weeks. Today, I have managed to clean more or less Nashkel mines, but I lost the fight vs Mulahey several times. Visibly, I can't beat him right now without that necklace of explosions (I sold it for recharging but had no enough money to buy it again).

Well, I'm planning to restart with the same char (Zlatomir has now level 4 with 9,000 xp) and take revenge on Mulahey with better preparation! LoL 😜

P.S. In principle, my monk of level 4 is able to beat kobolds 1 by 1 in melee (using the necklace of shield protection which gives AC=-2), but it's very dangerous vs critical hits (if someone really cares about non-reloading).
