Head of the Builder in Spellhold Dungeon - missing items?

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
there is an altar near the Head of the Builder that should contain items, as ive read in a walkthrough. i found none in it. maybe its random and i just got unlucky? and if i really should have found items in it, did i miss something juicy?
