Crashes with Upper-Left Text

Hey,

On my laptop I'm having some issues. I cannot play BG:EE. My intro screen looks like this:

Once I move towards the character generation, the game crashes.

Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a known fix?

    I had the exact same problem on my laptop, setting the game to run in Win98 compatibility mode fixed it for me.

    this is exactly the same as my laptop issue. How do I set the game to run in win98 compatability mode, and can I do that if I am running on winxp?

    I can't launch the game to run win98 or 95 or 2000, have you another issue plz ?

    I have the same graphics 7950 gtx, I fixed it by googling. It eventually lead to me a website LaptopVideo2Go.com with the option to search for specific compatible drivers that nVidia has released.

    You need to input the correct search terms for your specific video card, once you do that it will display the latest drivers that are compatible with your card. Download the driver plus the unofficial .ini file patch so that the setup package will allow the installation.

    After the install, the game worked perfectly, no corrupted text or crashes, perfect gameplay. I do have some minor graphical glitches where my screen 'shakes' left and right when I opening a folder in Windows for a split second but that's acceptable compared to not being able to run the game at all.
