I decided to start a Baldur's Gate main quest game with my Black Pits character. I expected the slave ring to go away but apparently it gets saved to the character file.

I cannot remove it. I finished the pits and the mage that I played, having all the spells then exporting him into the normal game, cannot remove the ring so I'm only able to use one ring slot.

I thought it is removed before the final battle.

It's removed at the start of the battle. I'll see about setting up a save after the battle.

    Import Workaround:

Multiplayer > Character Arbitration > Permissions > Options > (choose) Statistics & Exp

Want your other Items? Import two of them, swap items, delete the ring cursed one
Want singleplayer again? Copy multiplayer save into singleplayer save file folder

@Sarevokok I've added some scripting to the beginning that will remove the black pits ring from any character that's imported into the main game. It's coming up in the patch.

Oh, the autosave just after finishing the final battle will also be there.

As in topic. Character imported to BG1 from Black Pits has Slave Ring that cannot be removed.
Expected Behavior: No additional equipement on imported characters.

I would also wish to remove Slave Ring i'm wearing now that occupies my ring slot.

This is a known issue, it is supposed to be handled in the next release.
You can import characters without items as a workaround.

The Slave Ring should be removed from the character just before the final battle with the drow, if my memory isn’t failing me.

Well, i wasn't importing character that got to the final battle. Plaiying BG1 starting from level 10 would make fights too easy and boring.

Point taken. ;) However, removing the ring would require one of the below:
    1) removing all items in the inventory via scripting on game start (as it is done in Baldur’s Gate II or in the very Black Pits adventure; this however would kill the point of collecting gear for another playthrough, something that some people, including me, wouldn’t like)
    2) removing just the ring via scripting on game start (which is an ugly solution on principle – should the game be patched every time such an item is created in a custom adventure?)
    3) removing just the ring on export (the most elegant solution, but I don’t believe it’s all that easy to pull of – I’m no scripting expert, but I don’t believe that’s possible)

However, if you just wish to level up your character a bit, isn’t it much easier to do it through the console and the SetCurrentXP command?
