OCD: Aka "Omg! I have too much crap!

FredNFredN Member Posts: 640
.....Having just gotten back from the Underdark, I took my crew to Cromwell's forge, and went a bit crazy. I compulsively had him make the Wave halbard, the Gesen Bow, the Equalizer, the Silver Blade, and to top it all off, Crom bloody Feyr. But why stop there? Knowing we had a fight with Bodhi coming up, I also went and bought the Helm of Radience. Yeah, we already had Daystar, but you know what's better than a Sunray against a super powerful vampire? Two Sunrays!
.....Also, everyone in the group who was not a mage got 2 sets of armor. In fact, I even gave Imoen a set of Ankheg armor, for those cases where I didn't want her casting spells ... you know. WIld Magic rooms, Dead Magic rooms, or just fighting enemies with high magic resistance. She has the Bracers of Archery and the Tuigan Bow for such occasions.
.....Do I really need all this junk? Clearly not, but I am too much of a packrat to sell any of it. I mean, you never know when some obscure item will suddenly be of use. Also an update on weapons prowess. I now have Grand Mastery with both Bastard swords and Longswords. APR with each is now 5/2. Also Backstabs with Namarra coming up! B)
.....Actually, having to fight Bodhi was just an excuse to buy a new toy. If I go berserk, Dorn and I could probably have taken her out by ourselves, since we would then be protected from energy drain. Heck, Viconia could join in by tossing up Negative Plane protection, and bopping her with the improved Mace of Disruption. Dat gal's days be numbered.

Speaking of the Mace of Disruption, I could have sworn that I had upgraded it. However, when I look at it, it only says +1 and when equipped does not protect against level drain. I looked for the Ore merchant but she was nowhere to be seen, while neither Sir Sarles nor Hilldark had anything helpful to say, nor does Cromwell have any comment about upgrading the Mace. Have I somehow missed the boat on this one? Maybe the ore merchant vanishes after a period of time? Or the item is bugged somehow? If Cromwell makes no comment about materials needed, it suggests that the Mace was in fact upgraded, but for some reason, it doesn't act like that is the case.
++Addendum: I found the Ore Merchant; she apparently only comes out during the day. She refused to deal with me, saying that she only deals in bulk quantities of ore. Again, this suggests that the weapon was in fact upgraded, but for unknown reasons doesn't act like it.++

The ore merchant does not have any Illithium. She can start you on the chain of events that leads to it though. No doubt, the Improved Mace of Disruption is an awesome item to have. I most often give it to Keldorn. Between that and the Amulet of Power you can easily get two characters who can fearlessly melee vampires.
But with few exceptions I don’t hang one to redundant items. (like, every melee fighter will have a crushing weapon, whether proficient or not). That may be why my last team finished with over 1 million gold.

The problem is she will not talk to me at all, nor will Hilldark or Sir Sarles. As I said, I would have sworn I upgraded the mace but perhaps not. How do I find out how to get Illithium if no one will talk to me?

Did you actually start the quest at *whatever* appropriate temple?
  • FredNFredN Member Posts: 640
What Temple would that be? I went to all 3 temples in the Temple district, and nobody wanted anything.

OK never mind. It's the Temple of Helm. The problem is that there are 3 named officials of the Temple, and I was speaking to the wrong one. OK, now I finally have the wretched quest, and can go talk to Sir Serles. Sheesh. What a run-around. B)

Yeah its the same temple that gives you the Eyeless quest. My worst memory, is just that I did the Sir Serles part of the quest the first 3 or 4 times I played. What a waste.

    Imoen can't wear Ankheg armor.

She can't? I thought her thief skills, though small, would allow it.

Ah, I forgot I could wear any sort of armor because I went Berserker->Thief. My bad. (Facepalms). She can wear leather armor though, like The Night's Gift or the Grandmaster armor. Disables her spell casting, but that can work on specific occasions.

The magical elven chainmail from the Black Dragon is nice for her too.

Yes, sonething like that might work also, but I don't have access to that just at the moment.
