Elf

I have never played an elf before; decided to try one for a run. I picked elf because they have that 90% immunity to charm and sleep. But when I look at my combat sheet, under resistances it says "none". I also note that Jaheira, though also an elf, likewise has no resistances listed. Is this some oddity of the game display? Or some sort of bug, perhaps?

It's not displayed but it works. You will see a message in the dialog box when the resistance prevents sleep or charm.
Also, Jaheira is an half elf, she have only 30% resistance instead of 90%.

True enough, but I would still expect to see some resistance listed.
Ok. Good to know it is working. Thanks for the fast response. :p

Basically, that elven resistance is handled differently to other sorts of resistance. Something like magic resistance or fire resistance? That's a stat, and the engine directly handles it. But elven resistance to charm and sleep effects isn't a stat. Instead, it's handled spell-side (in the EE, anyway). Those spells go "I'm targeting an elf? Roll a 90% chance; if yes, block this spell and print a message."
Since there's no stat, there's nothing to display in the character screen.

This, of course, makes it easy to create spells/abilities that ignore that elf resistance. All you have to do is leave off the resistance effect. Color Spray causes unconsciousness which is the same effect as sleep, but elves resist a Sleep spell and don't resist a Color Spray spell.

Huh; I just noticed that Aerie is called an "elf", even though technically she belongs to some other weird race from elsewhere. Does this mean that she is considered to have resistance to charm and sleep like a true elf, or is this just the game engine mislabelling her?
Never mind; I Googled it and her race is apparently a subspecies of elf, which happen to be born with wings. So, yes, she does have the usual charm/sleep resistance.

Yes... And she is a multiclass (cleric/mage) not allowed to elves in this game 🤷🏼‍♂️.

But seems that Avariel elves can be cleric/mages (according to The Complete Book Of Elves)...
