Launcher Crashes on Update

Whenever I start the BG:EE launcher (not Beamdog client, I do not have that installed, not do I wish to), I get a notification that there is an update to install, and I have the options to install or skip. If I pick install, the client crashes. Every. Single. Time. I can skip the update and play the game fine. If I skip the initial update dialogue box the launch client will open up and there is a button to update next to the play button. If I try to update this way, the client crashes. Again, every. single. time.

I can play the game fine, but if there is ever an important update this could be an issue. Any help would be much appreciated.

I had same issue on Win 7, problem was in free space on disk - launcher needs several free gigabytes.

I have 220 gig free. I would assume that is enough.

Have you tried rebooting your your system?

I'm having the same problem on Windows 7 - I chose to download the update and then when the download started, the client seemed to crash with the message "BeamDog Launcher has stopped working".

However, after the fifth time of trying, I noticed that the launcher had not actually crashed, as it was still working fine in the background behind the error message. It started by checking files (the circle graphic was filling up). I just left up the error message and it went on to download the update, and then the game was ready to play.

I had the launcher set to run in compatibility mode for WinXP/SP2 at the time, but I can't tell if it made any difference - it didn't stop the error message from coming up.

    Bytebrain - Yup, have rebooted.

Gynoid - I am not using the Beamdog launcher, I am using the BGEE one. I get the windows message that the program has stopped working with nothing going on in the background. Also, I just tried setting the compatibility to WinXP/SP2 and now the launcher won't even open.

    Good times.

Sigh, this is becoming less fun all the time. After trying different compatibility options, the launcher won't even open at all now. It crashes right on startup, so I cannot even get to the dialogue box to download or skip the update. This is without any compatibility mode selected (before I started trying some it worked).

Problem solved - when I ran the launcher again, it updated itself and stopped crashing when I asked to apply the update...

You can also try and download the Client, point to your game directory and try again, via gynoid's instructions above.
It's NOT necessary to download the game again, the client just need to know where you're game is.

At this point the launcher won't even open up. It crashes when I click on it. I can play the game through the direct exe in the 00766 folder.

This is the BG:EE game launcher I am talking about. I don't have the Beamdog client. I shouldn't have to have the Beamdog client.

I had the same problem on crashing.
I then followed gynoid's advice on leaving the error window open for a good 5 or so minutes and then closed it. After opening the launcher again it offered to update the launcher itself, I accepted and after opening the launcher yet again I was able to apply the patch.
Windows 7 x64, no compatibility mode stuff nor administrative rights needed.

Are using the Beamdog client? Because it sounds like that was gynoid was doing?

Oops, forgot to mention that. No, I'm using the standalone launcher. But it works the same.

Well, the leaving the error box didn't work, so I just redownloaded client and it seems to be working right now.

I attempted to leave the client, but it has not worked after an hour, and I do not have the cap to re-download the entire 1.8gb...

*EDIT* I ran the program as administrator and it seems to be working better now. Which confuses me, because I already am the admin of my own pc, but anyway.
