A Series of Unfortunate Events

So I just had a different experience. That doesn’t happen super often considering how many times I’ve played the game through. It proceeded thusly-
I decided to play a ranger dualed to cleric, and for maybe the first time wanted to use a Stalker/Cleric build. Kinda handicapping the backstab options there so never played it, that I can remember anyway. I wanted Catti-brie to be sporting the Helm of the Noble this run, quite fetching with the black/gold color combo I thinked up. Can anyone spot the problem there? I did not until I was nearly finished all of the Amn map just cleaning up my mission log before heading to the Island of Pirates & Wizards and realized that I had not gotten the helm that I yearned for. There are few missions that I care for less than Sir Sarles little ore search, so I put it off at the very least until I get the speedy boots, lots of annoying slow walking there without the boots. I am needing that helm though and I can’t have any “Important Events” left unfinished. Being shod with the boots I make the #*&@%$ artist happy then head off to receive my spiffy head gear, and that’s when it hit me. I am a good cleric, have to be to be dualed from a ranger, I will not get my helm! Goody two shoes priests dole out a crappy necklace. Grr! Feeling defeated I trudge to the mystical land of Google to consult the sages about getting me a replacement helm. Oh my, Dorn’s quest has one but I run solo you know. I struggled with it, really struggled wit it, but decided it’s my game to play and I want that helmet. Besides I never played with Dorn, might be interesting.
Now we’ve been slapped in the face with problem # dos. I get a reputation hit, I never get a reputation hit, wasn’t even sure it was allowed anymore like we all just ran amok. Past the serious reputation collecting portion of the game I am ready to scream into my ale. Okay, okay Catti-brie, we can do this. It’s gonna hurt but we can do it. Then I find out slaughtering a gaggle of priests, knights and paladins is on the itinerary. Argh! I can’t, cannot, will not accept another reputation point loss. That helm is sooo needed though. What to do? What to do?
Weellll, being a priestess is what I am working with and that just might be good enough. Priestesses can summon a demon right? A diabolical grin takes over my face. This just might be possible.
I quickly make sure Dorn’s AI is set to none, no reloads for me thanks. I am frantic, in a hurry and feeling slightly nauseous about committing some evil, let’s just get this over with. Chuck a potion of Now You Don’t See Me down Dorn’s throat and boldly, about to pee my pants bold but still boldly, march us up to the caravan. Security is none too impressed but calls out for the boss anyway. The mark comes out and words ensue, impasse, to maim and possibly some slaughtering? Time to put the plan into action, I about jumped the gun earlier when I saw the guardsmen, now was the time though. I quickly call for Sanctuary, fumble for Dorn’s invisible hand an drag him off to the bushes. They can’t see me but I am too far away and can’t see them either, so I call for a little exposure to the area of Knightly Tents. This could get tricky so I protect us from evil, protect myself from fire and fear, and sneak out leaving Dorn in the brambles. I summon a demon between myself and the tents, it is an ugly, gnarly thing, huge and terrifying. My protections have worked, the spawn of hell pays no attention to me. It is kill hungry though, or maybe just hungry hungry because it begins to roast and eat these men of a lesser god. Grrr! Why would you move out of my admittedly poorly aimed area of exposure!? Okay I gotta see this, Sanctuary!, and dash off after the beast. Following the screams I trip over a tent rope and land on my face. But oooohhhh, there in front of me is my treasured helm. Only slightly scorched and blood spattered, that will come of in the wash though right? Pay no attention to the bits of blood and brains. Taking my prize and ignoring the not too distant sounds of continued carnage, I ran away from the scene of the crime yelling into the shrubbery at Dorn to shove it.
And that was my stressful morning, a harrowing reminder of why I don’t do evil. It does show why I still play the game after way too many years though.
