I Feel Like I'm Missing Something... (Kivan and Tazok)

It's been a long time since I've played BG1 (long before the enhancement). So from what I'm gatherin now, if you accept Kivan into the party, you have a unknowable timer ticking away to finish Kivan's quest... to kill Tozok. From what I recollect, you don't get the opportunity until near the end of the game (the 1st game) to even get near him again.
And even then he keeps sticken' around.

So how does a player ever finish Kivan's quest, so you than can send Kivan to a inn or some-such, and therefore allowing you the option to pick up other companions and finish their quests?

You got opportunity to meet Tazok with help of the Raiken from Peldvel or Teven from Larswood.

The timer is to find and get to the Bandit Camp, not really for Tazok. Depending of how you approach that quest, you can meet Tazok at the camp. He interacts briefly then leaves (changes slightly if you have Kivan in the group). I do remember in the original game you could kill him in this first encounter, even if he shows up at the final battle anyway. The EE did add a sort of closure to Kivan, in that if he kills Tazok at the final battle with Sarevok he says a brief line about avenging his wife. A nice little touch, kind of like how when Branwen meets up with Tranzig.
The initial timer makes it a bit inconvenient to pick him up early. I think getting him killed or petrified removes the timer. The EEs extended the timer so it's a little more forgiving.

The timer isn't too bad. (At least in the EE, which is the only version I know.)
Recruit him, and the first timer starts ticking. 20 days if it's chapter 1, 14 days if it's chapter 2, 7 days if it's chapter 3.
When that first timer expires, he complains and starts the second timer. 20 days if it's chapter 1, 14 days if it's chapter 2, 7 days if it's chapter 3.
If you still haven't reached the camp when that second timer expires, Kivan leaves forever.

As long as you're not sleeping days away to recover HP, or trying to clear the entire wilderness before progressing the main plot, you'll be fine. All right, if that complaint comes in chapter 3, you'll want to proceed to the bandit camp immediately. But that's about it.

And once you reach the bandit camp, no time pressure at all.

So since I have been to the Bandit Camp,
, and have finally made it past flooding the Iron Throne Mine
I can ask him to hang, even though he threatens something about how I need to not be forgetting his quest? Without screwing the game?

Threaten? He won't even bring it up. Completely safe.
