Companions and their gear transfer in SoD

It was probably talked many times already but I'd like to share my experience, ask for improvement or at least explanation why is it like this.

I'm playing the same character from BG1 till BG2 ToB. What I have in mind are companions that I did not have in my party.

So after intro of SoD when I lost my companions I went to get Minsc and Dynaheir as a start just to realise Minsc only got few normal items and Dynaheir has nothing at all. That was disappointing.

Now when I went from BG2 SoA to ToB I also did not play with Minsc in my party but summoned him with the Spirit. He properly got better equipment there.

I read over internet that Minsc and Dynaheir in SoD by default should have some good pregenerated gear and spells on them.

My guess is because I hired them in base game just to remove them a second later the game took it as they were my party companions and transferred their equipment to SoD.

But when coming from BG2 SoA to ToB game only takes into consideration those companions that were in my party at the final of SoA. All other companions summoned by Spirit get pregenerated gear and don't transfer their equipment from SoA.

So I think it should work like that for SoD too. If I didn't have a companion at the final of base game, its equipment state should not be transferred to SoD and it should get pregenerated gear instead. Why doesn't it? Is it intended? A bug? Could devs fix it in an update or it's not possible?
