Can't sell Star Sapphire?

Ok, I haven't played BG in a looooong time (like 10+ years).
I can't seem to find any merchant in the game that will but the Star Sapphire, pearl or other 'expensive' gemstones off me. As I really need some cash to get my party outfitted, it would be nice to know where these things can be sold... besides in BG itself, as I need the funds (and resultant equipment) to get there.
