Unable to save

I'm unable to save any game even though I get the message that the save was successful. Settings changed in options do not save.
Areas also reset. For example in Candlekeep, Shank keeps respawning whenever I enter the house and Neera's gem bag keeps the same gems no matter what I put in or if I sell them.
The Baldur's Gate folder was never created in my documents and I've tried running the game with all compatibility modes and admin rights. I've tried installed using both BGEE launcher and Beamdog. Creating a new user account on my PC has the same problem.
My Baldur.ini file is found in "C:\"

    Same here. Game works fine, but baldur.ini does not exist. Installed the game, like 8 times both - through standalone and Beamdog, as admin on two separate drives - nothing.

    OK - I fixed it. Removing the game and unticking 'read only' in Documents folder properties and installing the game again on my games drive with standalone installer. Sorted! Maybe it will work for you matey.
