Is creating custom base classes a lot more complex than creating class kits ?

Hello everyone,

I've been playing Baldur's Gate EE for a while now, and began browsing mods recently, specifically custom classes, and I noticed there's very few of those, most are class kits instead.

While the one I am looking for does not exist, I've been considering making it myself, but before diving into that, having little to no coding experience currently, I was wondering why so many mods are class kits and not full on classes.

It would probably not change much during the main campaign, but I've noticed when playing Siege of Dragonspear that some dialogs take your class into account, and for multi-classes such as Mage-Cleric or Fighter-Mage-Thief, that individual classes are still taken into account, and I wondered whether it's the class that includes the sub-classes or if the game checks for a list of classes that includes multiclasses instead ?

I'm asking this second part as, if I wanted to make a class that is close to an existing one, say artificer from 5e which is quite close to a mage, I'd need to only create a class or also modify the game's checks for said class as well.

Thank you for taking time to read me !
