Class Description During Char Creation Using Female Pronouns Regardless of Sex of Character

psyactpsyact Member Posts: 81
CURRENT BEHAVIOR: When selecting a class for a male character, the descriptions used include feminine pronouns.

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR: The pronouns properly reflect the selected sex of the character.

Notes: Very minor bug, obviously. My first character created was female; not sure if that's relevant (it may set a variable permanently or something). Apologies if this was already posted, but it's pretty hard to search for bugs on this forum.

I do not know if intelligent pronouns are even possible here. A mixture of male and female pronouns was chosen to not be sexist and exclude women from the Forgotten Realms.

It was so also in BG2 wasn't it?

The descriptions definitely use pronouns based on the sex of your character, because some of the descriptions are blank where there should be a pronoun. Whether that's something that Beamdog implemented or if it's in the original version of BG I do not know.

Interesting. I apologize for an unqualified answer. Now who do I tag for this? I think @AndreaColombo was responsible for the descriptions.

Yep, that was me. I originally changed pronouns to "they" as that's the modern generic pronoun used when you don't know the sex of a person. However, Dave Gross not being a fan of "they" used as a singular subject, the change was reverted.

If tokens are possible in class descriptions—which is moot in the first place—I am sure @Jalily will be in favor of using them.

Well, I can confirm @psyact's experience. As it stands, it works for females but not for males.
I started a new game without ever touching the female button, so variables setting incorrectly because of that can be ruled out.

Not sure if this is still relevant but I noticed last night while in character creation (iOS version, iPad 3) that not only are there no pronouns at all, but also words like "marksman" are missing the "man" part. I was creating a male character at the time.

Unfortunately, tokens don't seem to be working reliably at CC; the word "marksman" has a token in it to turn it to "markswoman" when creating a female character.
The bug is known and it has been reported on the tracker. It will eventually get fixed, but not before bugs that are causing the game to crash to desktop or preventing players from completing main plotlines.

Naturally, game-breakers have priority. I might have missed it in my search, but since I couldn't find this in the known or fixed bugs lists I wanted to add the note about "marksman" and the like. Thanks for the update, especially so quickly. :)
