Game doesn't launch after update

it was working dammit *sob* It was working great.

I suppose I'll describe the steps i took to get it working originally:

I moved the entire game file from Programs(x86) to (C:)

I set both BGEE.exe and Baldur.exe to compatibility mode Vista Service Pack 1

I installed OpenAL as per Nathan's advice.

I set my nVidia 3d settings to "High-Performance Nvidia processor" as opposed to auto detect

After doing all that the game opened and ran beautifully, even from the launcher, provided I ran as administrator.

Now, after applying the update, not even the launcher will run, nor will the game when I attempt to open it directly in the data folder (0766).

Has anyone else had a problem after applying the update? I knew clicking that stupid button was a mistake. It wasn't broke, at least for me, so I had no reason to try to fix it. Is this problem because I moved the folder from the default install location? I checked compatibility and they're both still set to Vista SP 1 (not like it reverted).
Oh and I just rebooted, so that's out.

Any and all advice and ideas are greatly appreciated! As i said it was running just fine before the update, thanks to the advice from this forum (I picked up Coran last night! I was so happy he had 70 points in lockpicking I was worried it would all be in pick pockets and I'd have to keep using Imoen, whose kinda pointless as I'm already running Neera and a PC wildmage, so dualing makes little sense).

I should have set a windows restore point before updating.

Here's hoping you guys come through for me again! Thanks in advance.

System:

i7-2670 2.2Ghz
Windows 7 64-bit
4gb ram
Nvidia Geforce 555m gt (or something like that)

update/bump - actually the launcher is opening when i run it normally, but not when I "run as administrator". wierd. I clicked "repair install" to see if that does anything.

    edit: didnt help.

On a side note, I'm getting crash reports that are getting dumped into a folder now. That didn't happen before.

Try undoing all of those things (and move it back to the original location) then delete everything in the installation folder EXCEPT the Data folder, and re-run the installer (BGEEInstaller.exe). It will replace all of the files you deleted. If that doesn't work, then I would uninstall and re-install from scratch. Sucks eh.

I couldn't get the game to work before and I still cant do it after the update. The only difference is instead of crashing immediately after I hit play it the game just quietly runs in the background.

what did I just do? I set BG:EE compatibility to windows 7, and completely unchecked compatibility mode in Baldur.

    Aaand it works?

computers are weird. Computer Science is modern day magic. Only rare individuals have the intelligence and dedication to learn it. Those powerful few have the fear and respect of the general populace, as we rely on them to keep our world operating smoothly. It's just funny that some of the most complex magic is used to amuse children.

AAAnnnyways, thanks Cantrips, I'm glad I didn't have to do everything you described :D.

Gluck Guston, hope you get it running soon! For me the original "AHA" moment was realizing the whole "intel integrated graphics" thing applied very much to me. Switching up my nvidia settings worked wonders. I assume you've tried that, as well as all the compatibility stuff though.

Where did the baldur.ini file go? I updated, and now it doesn't respect the files under "My Documents". The baldur.ini file and my saves don't make any difference.

HOWEVER! I used to have to run in compatibility mode, and windowed mode, and neither of those are tru anymore. It just works, (but I don't have my saves...)
