Splash screen hangs up.

I tried to take in an update recently and the program got stuck. Now whenever I start the game up the splash screen says 'Please wait ...' and hangs. The user interface does not refresh and the process eats a full CPU. The only way to kill it is through a task manager.

How can I get my game to work again without losing my saves and characters?

    Splash screen hangs in 'Please wait ...' mode.

    Expected behaviour:
    I get a button that allows me to start the game.

    Are you playing in windowed mode?
    If yes: is the game window only partially on screen?
    If yes: Draw the window fully on screen.
