Does BG EE work in Windows 98?

Since I still cannot start the game (baldur.exe silently crashes without any error message) on my Alienware M11x R1 even after trying all kinds of solution suggestions and "solutions", I remembered I have an old computer with a 3dfx voodoo 5 on it that runs on Windows 98, so I was wondering if it was worth a shot to try it there?
