Black Pits Beholder [minor spoilers]

So I beat the Black Pits and had a lot of fun doing so. But what happened to the Beholder? I completed all his dialogues till the point where he told me he was going to face me in the next round and that I should prepare for death. But then I just faced the Drow guy and the two shop vendors. Is this a glitch in my game or a bug that everyone has encountered? Or are we simply never supposed to face him? I wanted to kill him for being so arrogant!

    Maybe you killed the Drow to fast..in my fight he summoned a Beholder and an Iron Golem when he got low on HP

    Oh ok! A summoning portal did appear but then nothing stepped out. So there is supposed to more to it, good to know. I thought that battle was too easy (other than figuring out which weapons could kill tiger guy). The only one that took more than one try was the fire giant and all his elementals.

    If you kill Baeloth before the two shopkeepers, he won't summon the beholder.

    Additionally, if you wait after the fight rather than going ahead and teleporting out, you will face the scrolls shopkeeper (he is a joke). If you wait even longer, you get stuck in the arena with endlessly spawning duergar.

    Yeah, I was hoping if I killed enough of them something would happen. Left my game on while I cooked dinner, my team hacking away all the while. Nothing happened, just more and more midgets with slings.

    you gotta kill the mage and dwarf without injuring the main guy he will summon a beholder but what i wanna know is has anyone beat the beholder yet its what im going for

    2 -3 shot kills on all my players...

    He not only summons a beholder (which is pretty easy to deal with if you have potions of Mirror eyes or scrolls/spells to protect against petrification) but he then summons two clay Golems to deal with if you give him long enough. During a solo run you have to deal with a lot. =/

    i killed the beholder (on my first run) but I had so few of my party left that i was then killed by baeloth and some golem.

    on my second run i hit baeloth with a speculative insect plague and he never summoned the beholder
