Game won't start past Character Creation - it crashes

I keep getting the same error report - "/crash/dump000#.dmp"

What happens is the game crashes immediately after the opening narrative. Can someone please help me with this? I don't know if this same problem has been discussed elsewhere, so I apologize. I really don't have the time to go perusing through all the threads to find this specific issue.

I am running Windows 7 on my desktop with a ATI Radeon dedicated graphics card. I've tried running/installing through the BG installer, as well as Beamdog's client. Neither works.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

    There are quite a few people with this problem.
    Still, if you could upload the .dmp file from your "crash" folder (either in your game folder or under C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition), that would be helpful to the developers to find out what's going wrong.

    I see. Well, I hope, since it is a somewhat widespread issue, that it will be fixed sooner rather than later. :)
