[Request] Multiple strongholds

LuneverLunever Member Posts: 307
Current behaviour:
To see all stronghold quests you have to play the game 10 times all over. Probably not many players do that, and although these plots are very good stories many players never know what they are missing.

Desired behaviour:
My first suggestion would be, to allow multiclass characters multile strongholds, but that alone would give them to much of an advantage over single class characters. So I'm adding a second suggestion:
Why not allow joinable NPCs to have strongholds too? Why not have Jaheira be the new archdruid and Haer Dalis the star of the theatre? It wouldn't add new content, it would just make existing content better accessible.

    Na.

Strongholds don't do much for you, which is a good thing. I've played a few of them, but strongholds are specifically class based and should remain. Giving strongholds to your party members is pointless and unproductive, you're the main man here not them.

I agree with Ward in that NPCs shouldn’t get any, and I don’t quite like the idea of multiple strongholds. On the other hand I do really enjoy what the strongholds offer, I think many of them allow you to somewhat customise your actual impaction Amn, in the sense of role playing, which is limited due to the demanding storyline. I would really like expansion of these strongholds though, allow you to have greater control over what you do i them. For example I really like the expanded thief’s stronghold mod that someone or rather made, the extended planar sphere mod also makes the mage stronghold really interesting (though it is probably a little TOO big for direct implementation)
Although I imagine this would probably fall under “changing original content” :(

No I like that you can only have one stronghold each. It forces me to replay the game multiple times which I love. If anything I'd suggest expanding the content of each hold.

    @Scooter

Expanding existing strongholds makes for good fun. I've always wanted Nalia's keep to be sieged. Can't they implement a siege option where at random intervals you'll be called to defend the keep? They could have NPC archers on walls and stuff.

I agree with @Ward I wouldn't like to see NPCs get strongholds, and multiple strongholds seem unnecessary. There are a couple of strongholds that I think could use some improvement/added content, but that's unlikely to happen, and they're all at least decent the way they are.

I would like NPCs to be able to get Strongholds, if just to see additional Minsc dialogue for however he reacts to the Ranger Stronghold quests :D

I dislike in games how the whole world seems to revole around the main character. The NPCs are indepedent people whose interests you have to take into account when making decisions, not elaborate golems to be sacrificed at your command!

The downside of giving strongholds to NPC's is of course party balance and NPC fairness. If you're the same class as one of your partymembers, or if you have two partymembers of the same class, you're cutting yourself short one Stronghold. Hell, I'd be tempted to pick up an NPC, finish the stronghold quest, get the stronghold for that NPC and drop him/her from the group until I feel like doing some quests for it. That way, I can get control over all the strongholds in the game.

One for the player character is just fine. Keeps it special, keeps the attention focused on the centre of the story; You
I do agree that some could do with a little makeover. The d'Arnise Keep was just fine, but the Paladin Stronghold (if you can call it that) was just sad. No special quarters (promised but never delivered) and a quest to do what you were going to do anyway (get Carsomyr). Not good.

I'd like that, it's good roleplaying. You adventure with a companion for a while and help him get a stronghold and he stays there to run it, but calls on your help when he's in need. I don't see the problem...

I found the actualy uselfulness of the strongholds not that big, but I absolutely liked the plots & stories involved. And even being a total BG geek and very enthuiastic about BG:EE - I won't play through EE 9 times.
