Game still won't start

Well, I've tried all the fixes, compatibility modes, launching as admin, using the file vs. the launcher. I got the game to work exactly once since Wednesday, for about 10 minutes then it locked up on me. I'm going to just put this game aside for a month and hope they can fix some of these basic bugs.

It's ridiculous that an updated port of a game specifically intended to work on higher end machines requires all kinds of complicated technical sidestepping in order to work on a higher end machine. Boo, Beamdog, Boo. (and not the miniature giant space hamster one).

Same here. I just bought the game today and it won't start. I have windows 7 64 bit, nvidia gtx 560 ti latest drivers, i7 2600. Tried running the game in all compatibility modes, installed open al, administrator mode, different install folders, nothing works. Run the exe and nothing happens, not even an error message. I have no idea what else to try.

I had the same problem and it sounds like our set ups are similar. What finally worked for me is to download openal, install it, THEN go to your SysWOW64 folder and find the OAinst application and run it directly from that folder ( otherwise open AI only installs to your sys32 folder which will do you no good).

You will need to run the game from the Baldur file and not the launcher. Hope this helps.

Here's a link to the openal installer:

While I appreciate the work-arounds, my point is still the same. Why should I HAVE to do all this rigmorale to get this game to work?? Wasn't the point of EE that it was updating the game to work on current systems??

PS - The sad part is that I can play the original BG on my computer no problem. So, I've been playing that instead.

lol all I did was go to my Program files x(86) folder, clicked on Baldurs gate game folder, then the data folder, then the 0076 folder. Then ran compatiblity mode windows 95 on the baldur icon not the BGEE one and it works perfect now
