Shortcuts not working

Hi,

In original BG I & II I used to use shortcuts, especially the keys 1 to 6 to select characters or dialog choices. They do not work in BGEE. This should be fixed guys.

    Bug :
Using a french keyboard setup (AZERTY), there's two shortcuts that do not work anymore.
    - The shortcut to pick an answer in a dialog (Pressing the 1-9 key to pick the 1-9 answer)
    - The default map shortcut doesn't work properly.

    Expected behavior :
Using the keyboard numbers (Not the numpad, but numpad should be working too) should let you pick an answer.
The map should open when pressing on the "M" key.

    Note :
I've tried both with an en-Us keyboard setup and a fr-FR keyboard setup, same problem.
I've also tried with both french and english versions of the game.

Works for me. Is your computer maybe set to a region other than US English? I had some problems with store prices not displaying with another region setting.

Doesn't seem to work for me.. i have a french (azerty) keyboard.. all keys seems to be messed up (for keys like those ones).
1...6 ... but also 'm' (never worked..had to manually assign the map key to 'k'.. hitting 'm' key was indicating a 'ù' response.. the same for '1'-->'&', '2'-->'é', etc (as if AltGr+num pressed auto, on azerty keyboards..).
Obviously, none of those keys can be recognized, so nothing working either for those shortkeys.. ,(

.. i tried alt+shift, nothing changing either (what is supposed to happen, notification in dialogue box appearing too?). (*)

anyway, if you have a hint, don't hesitate.. i am sure that is just a keyboard thing too..but where to change it.. here is the question ^^ /

    (*) made me discover alt+enter, though..nice full screen/windowed mode switch too.. )

    @Boxleitner
interesting (yes, i noticed the same keyboard / exactly the same problems - + m key - initially for you); nope, here, alt+shift produce nothing -no effects. What is that suppose to give, in the dialogue box/UI message ?! +

I'm not sure if this was introduced with this patch, but when I want to select the whole party, the default keybinding used to be '=' (equal to-sign), however this has now been changed to zoom in. Also when hovering over the 'select all' button in game, the default suggested button is still '='.

Ofcourse you could say it's a simple matter of changing the keybinding, but for me this is a bug.

Anyone else have this, or just me?

    So to sum up:

Current Behaviour: The select all party button suggests that the default keybinding is = (as it should be), But this is NOT the keybinding assigned by default anymore.

Expected Behaviour: The select all party button suggests that the default keybinding is = (as it should be), and this is the keybinding effectively assigned to it. -OR- the label is changed to match the keybinding currently in effect.

I don't have those options at all. I've never been able to change the hotkeys for character selection and since 2014 (recently, as it came on Steam), I can't even select them using the previously default ones (1, 2, 3, etc.)

My "Quick Slots" department only goes until "Formation Slot 4", there's nothing else. Should I start a new thread about it? I posted here as I was surprised to see this screenshot.

@Vishnu What version are you playing? Latest is 2014.

2014. I could select characters just fine before pressing 1, 2, 3, etc. but I can't. And I have never had an option to change the hotkeys for character selection.

    Expected:
"=" keyboard shortcut works - selects all the party members.

    Actual:
it does not work in Game Update #8 (26. of April '13).

    Details:
    desktop, win7.

A change was made to support zooming using the keyboard + and - keys. You can now select the whole party using the 0 key.

    well, thanks.
    it works for me.

but the "select all" button tooltip text still requires correction from "=" to "0".
or tooltips are out of scope for touch devices? ;)

Using a US keyboard and I"m running into this. Keys 1-= (party select + zoom) were working, then randomly during gameplay stopped.

Seems when I installed the ultimate portrait pack (installs to override directory) it got rid of whatever adds the party select hotkeys to the gameplay>assign hotkeys>quickbar menu. It doesn't show up at all, only toolbelt/potions/wizard/priest spells.

Is there a way for me to get the original override directory without reinstalling?

Up until just recently, the selection of characters through number keys 1-0 worked fine, then suddenly it stopped working. Does anyone know why, and how to resolve this?
  • TwinAxesTwinAxes Member Posts: 14
So it was the Portrait Pack that caused the problem. I reinstalled without it, and now the shortcuts are back and functioning again.
  • VishnuVishnu Member Posts: 66
I recently discovered the same, it was the portrait pack. Very frustrating actually.

I was able to remap my select characters 1,2,3 to '0', characters 4,5,6 to '-' and select all to '=' but everytime I quit and reload the game the '-' and '=' keys switch back to zoom in and out but the '0' remains with select characters 1,2,3

@Cerevant : as you can see, this problem also occurs since update 8 ! (the one with the Italian language).

You see, other people are having this problem, and "AZERTY" is not the problem.

    So somewhere, something has changed.

    - Can't use console properly
    - can't select the characters properly
    - can't use numbers in a dialogue for quick answers
    - can't use some UI shortcuts
    - ...

This was fixed once, but as many othe bugs, this bug has returned (like the no-comply-to-orders-bug => they have fixed this one again however !).

Are you using a portrait pack? There was an issue reported with the keyboard working when certain portrait packs were installed.

    We'll keep looking...
  • Aasimar069Aasimar069 Member Posts: 803
No. I do not use any portrait pack.

I was not able yet to test with another brand usb keyboard, but if many other people are having this bug, it has to be a change from BG:EE side, since our drivers haven't changed.
