Shiellagh (possibly all magical weapons) => character permanently unable to equip weapons

Tried casting shiellagh with Jaheira lv 2 in nashkel mines, worked ok. Up until the fight was finished and I tried equiping the normal weapon again (after the magical club expired).

The game keeps saying "magical weapon in use". Permanently.
Resting, loading, leaving party. Doesn't matter. Jaheira is now unable to equip any weapon. permanently.

Thus I cannot continue playing the game :(.

    Jaheira has her staff equipped that she gets when you meet her. Everything is fine until I notice she has switched to just her fists. So I check her inventory and the staff is still equipped but it's not showing up in her paper doll. I also can not remove it. Every time I try to remove it it says a magical item is in use even if all her other equipment is not equipped. I did not try killing her to see if that would fix it. I'm sure it would. Anyway probably a low priority bug. Weird however.


    Killing her and then resurrecting her fixes this. Was to be expected.

    Jaheria in my game is using a club. Upon casting Shalleigh or even Burning Weapon the spell works as intended, however after the duration of the spell has expired the game resorts to unarmed. The club is still in her weapon slot, however when I try to click it, "Magical Weapon Equipped" shows. It has been confirmed that resting does not solve this problem, nor is switching a weapon possible.

    Hi,

    I casted Shillelagh and saved pretty much at the same time. Loading this save had the effect of permanently having "using magical weapon" in effect, meaning my character can now only use fists and cannot equip weapons. Excepted behaviour: "using magical weapon" not permanent!

    If you are stuck in that mode, I recommend using [Ctrl] [R] (with activated cheats) to save your character.

    Bug confirmed ! What a pain in the *** ! Ty very much, devs, for considering it like an urgent bug. Jaheira can not get a weapon any more.

    Samadhi, I think our solution is using a cheat code to replace her weapon. But is it possible in this version ? Can you guys help us pls ?

    ToB cheat codes work. Actually, they fixed 1-2 that caused crash in ToB.

    ctrl-r on the bugged character fixes them. You can expect this fixed in next release.

    Fixed it by casting doom on the character then buying 'dispel magic' at a temple (I didn't have dispel magic at the time)

    I've had a similar problem. Happened right after i cast her magical club spell. slept load of times etc, now just permanently stuck on fists. will try the resurrection method though

    Hey! I just mentioned this is another bug post. I had this issue near enough on release day and a poster recommended I cast dispel magic. My main pc had the magic club but when it idssapated he was running around with his fists for hours.

    I didn't have dispel magic so I cast doom on him and went to a temple and bought 'dispel magic' as it wouldn't let otherwise and volia I can re-equip weapons. I think it has something to do with saving the game during certain magical effects, the dispel also worked for Neera who had a permanent colour change.

    Cheaper than snuffing it!

    Yes, this is probably related to the Shillelagh spell. If you don't want to waste time, [Ctrl] [R] with activated cheats works too.

    Probably you used her shillelagh spell/saved/reloaded while the spell was active?
    That was already reported.
    I believe ctrl-r will fix this bug (no need of killing her).

    If this is the problem, then all spells that give magic weapons might be risky to save with.

    I tested Melf, Chill Touch and Ghoul Touch. They did not share the problem.

    Actually, melf should. I just fixed it in my game.
    Yeah, i know why it isn't. It is not timed. Only the shillelagh is timed AND contain a filled broken weapon field. At least i didn't find others.

    I tested again.
    1. Summon Melf's Minute Meteors
    2. Save game.
    3. Reload.
    4. Lots of Meteors.
    5. Unleash.
    6. Hey, access to my weapons.
    7. Post about it on the internet.

    Well, partial success. It no longer breaks the character, but the spell is still lost.
    Can't you preserve that?

    No, all timed magic weapons appear to be removed (forced to break) on load. That is an actual bug, but that is in the engine.

    This happens after melf's minute meteors is cast as well. I've noticed in the black pits, after my mage finishes combat having cast it, on the 'fade in' to the general merchant area, my mage always pauses the game because he gets a status change that says "XYZ Weapon Unusable". But I think the Black Pits restores all the characters health with the equivalent of CTRL-R or CTRL-J, because I can still use weapons on him afterward.

    Probably the ctrl-key cheats work without enabling them.
    This one is required for the clua console, i guess. Honestly, this is the first thing i always set, so it is pretty much always on for me. So i don't know if it is still required.
    1. locate your baldur.ini, same place where the saved games, crash dump folder, etc resides.
    2. make a backup copy
    3. edit the original baldur.ini
    Add the line
    'Program Options', 'Debug Mode', '1',
    to the end of the list, but before the closing.
    4. start program, load game. If ctrl-x works, prints area name and location, then ctrl-r should also work.

    Don't ask me how to bring up the console, i always forget what's the actual key combination :)
    Something with shift, ctrl or alt, and tab or space or esc :)

    Console opens up with [Ctrl] [Space], and it's rather irritating to have when you accidentally press [Ctrl] and all following attempts to start a pause are entered into the console.
