Death Gaze won't turn characters to Ghoul

Aec'Letec in BG1 and the "wildsurge demon" in BGEE has the ability however in BG2 it is just a kind of hold person without the turning effect. I know it would make some places harder (for example planar sphere) but still if it is in BG1 you should be able to defeat them in BG2.
