Elven Chainmail location?

So I finally get to sink some time into BGEE (two days off in a row! <3) and I thought maybe I'd roll a bard. Normally I go cleric/mage or mage/thief, but this time I wanna be a bard.

I had read that they were adding elven chainmail to the game, and in the console I can even add it. But I'd rather find it, you know? So.. does anyone know where you can find/buy it? :3

    There is currently no usable elven chain in the game. One of the characters in dorn's amubsh is wearing it, but it doesn't drop.

    @ajwz,
    What about that woman with the wolves outside Baldur's Gate who is looking for Kivan?

    Awh man.. looks like I'll need to just add it with the console. D: I wonder when would be a good point to do that at...

    Robe of the archmagi and spirit armor says hi.

    I could have sworn the devs said they were putting one in.

    Wasn't that part of a mod?

    I thought bards couldn't wear robes?

    Also, it (elven chainmail) is in the game, you can add it in. I just think maybe it hasn't been found yet, or they forgot to add it as a drop or something.

    I guess they were only joking when they said they'd add elven chain? :(
  • LillyhimeLillyhime Member Posts: 36
    No they can't. Just tried to put one on, the description also has Bards under the "Cannot Use" list.

    Just pretend it dropped in the aforementioned ambush, I suppose. :D

    Lol. Yeah. I guess that'll do.

    Its not really that great... same AC as Robe of the Archmagi.... without the spell resistance the latter offers.

    It's still the best for a Bard in BG1 since they can't use robes.

    If you want to enable the item to drop, you may do the following. I used Near Infinity. If you don't have it, you'll need to download the latest version from sourceforge.

    Navigate to Dorotea.cre.
    Click on the "edit" tab
    Scroll down and open "Item 0"
    This will open a window. The last row is labelled "Flags." Click on this row
    At the bottom, several boxes will appear. Uncheck undroppable. After that, the chainmail will drop from Dorotea during the ambush.

    If you want to undo this change, delete dorotea.cre for you override folder.

    @Lilyhime
    Bards can use it. The description may be mistaken, but near infinity doesn't read it as unusable by bards. To verify, I put it into a game with a bard, and he could use it without a problem

    EDIT: Ah, I see now. You were referring to the robes. Disregard

    I would love to have the chainmail for RP purposes. I'm sure the team will fix it in a patch soon :D

    I kind of want it for my fighter/thief, but unless it's an elven chain +3 or something, it's not really that great. There are better enchanted leather armors.

    Its not that great for a thief, but its amazing for a bard. As has previously been mentioned, they can't wear the Mage robes in game, so unless they want to devote spell slots to armor spells, they're kinda limited to Elven Chain. Its the reason I'm waiting on my evil party until they fix the drop rate as I don't feel like enabling the console that I'll abuse.

    I love the console. I use Ctrl+J to move around towns all the time, so I spend far less time watching my party slowly move across a harmless map. I also tend to use ExploreArea in towns, though I like using the fog-of-war to keep track of where I still need to explore in wilderness areas. For solo runs, I always give myself a Bag of Holding via CreateItem as well, simply because limited inventory space is annoying and doesn't add anything entertaining to the game, in my opinion.

    But it does give you an advantage in that you can now carry all the items you want for future encounters: potions, scrolls, weapons, etc. and also loads of loot for selling. I wouldn't enjoy having to juggle inventory space and having to leave behind items, scrolls and potions I know I'll probably need either though.

    Ditto. Just like he said.

    I just finished Senjak's ambush running v1.0.2012 on my PC and Dorotea dropped plate mail, not elven chain. I know the chainmail was supposed to be added as a drop with this patch, did they make someone else drop it? Has anyone actually found it yet? As a solo F/M/T it's not too shabby and I'm not about to CLUA create it.

    You get it from later on in Dorn's questline.

    The Thayan can, the bard can't.
