[Bug?] Marek and the Poison

So playing through the game got to Baldur's Gate City.

These two douchebags start harassing me so I kill one, the other runs away because of his boots of speed. Turns out I am poisoned. Yep, Marek and Lothander. I forgot about them and am now paying for it.

They first approached me and talked to me. I remembered he had the Eagle bow, and as my thief uses shortbows I decided to acquire said bow. Lothander escaped fast enough with his boots of speed. So I wander around Baldur's Gate and save my game a few times, before finally running in Lothander again. No big deal I think, he will help me, don't need Marek. So I go through the full quest until he tells me to go find Marek. Well. Bhaals. I hope Marek will somehow be in the Inn, but nope, he's still dead. No big surprise. So I know I got only ten days left, so I stay at the inn a bunch of times to test. Death. So I looked online a little. I spawned both instances of his potion, drank the one that worked with all characters, then rested at the inn. Still death. Tried spawning Marek and pickpocketing. No potion. Tried spawning Marek and killing him. No potion. Somewhere online suggested shadowkeeper + global variables SPRITE_IS_DEADMAREK set to 0. Okay, but there that global variable isn't there. Anyone have any ideas?

Current behaviour: Marek does not his potion of antidote when killed. (First meeting)

Expected behaviour: Marek should drop his potion of antidote when killed. (first meeting).

I am going to try adding the global variable to see if it works.

Edit: Turns out I was trying to edit the wrong save. The global variable was there. Changed it to 0 and it worked.
So lesson the day; wait to kill Marek. Do not kill him the first time you meet him.

@Kara17 so... is this a non-issue I guess. You clearly shouldn't kill him at first time, there is nothing that tells he actually have the antidote on him. Attacking him is thus risky, isn't it ? What do you think ?

You actually will run into this problem if you kill him in the inn before talking to him also, as the potion doesn't set the flag to cure you, talking to him does. Worked this way in the original also.

    @Medillen

While that is true the issue is that once you talk to him you are poisoned, but are unaware of it until you go to central Baldur's Gate and run into his friend. And then you are unaware you need him alive until you have gone through most of the quest.

So the issue is nothing apparent is stopping you from killing him. And then by the time you realize you shouldn't have killed him, you have only ten in game days left to live.

Nah, they changed this... I killed him the moment I saw him again in the inn and it automatically drank the potion when I picked it up from his corpse.

how can i edit the save and make the global variable 0?
edit: i figured it out from IGN.com, add
    'Program Options','Debug Mode','1',
    to the baldur.ini file.

@camzombies If that does not work download Shadowkeeper and load up your save. Scroll to the right most of the tabs until you find global variables. Change SPRITE_IS_DEADMAREK to 0.
Make sure you are not in the upstairs of the Blushing Mermaid Inn when you save.

You do not get poisoned from Marek when you first meet him. You do whenever you meet Lothander. But if you kill Marek during the first encounter, then Lothander will no longer appear in central BG. This should be in 2009.

    2009? I don't get it.

And no,I killed Malek, Lothander still appeared in central BG. I am playing Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition.

Balquo means build 2009, the recently released patch for the game.

I founded another method to kill him without lost nothing :D in the inn, with 2 member of party you can block the stairs...in this mode he cant escape and you can kill him faster coz he doesn't attak you :D
