Is Ekandor important?

When i first found Neera after the fight with the nameless thay mage and thugs i went north and entered a building, when i left the building I got a message saying Ekandor(The mage that wants to study neera) cast Firesheild so i headed back to the original battle site and sure enough he was back. He was neutral and unresponsive to dialog request so for giggles i attacked him, he never fought back and after a few crits (79 damage total) he died and left me a magic robe, plain quarterstaff and some gold.

I'm just wondering if killing him here like this is going to mess up whatever quest Neera has or if it doesn't mater.

    I'm pretty sure the answer is no at this point from reading about Neera's quest but can anyone confirm or point me at the right board to ask on?
